2 hour coast and cultural walk with a Kubirri Warra clan member • Damper and catch of the day
What to bring
Shorts, T-shirt, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, towel & bottle of water, poncho (if required)
Self-Drive to Cooya Beach for a 2.5 hour tour. Your Kuku Yalanji guide will introduce you to traditional fishing and gathering techniques including spear throwing and handling as it is still practised today.
Along the way, Linc or Brandon Walker will show you some of the coastal and mangrove plants which have been used for their medicinal benefits and food for the Kuku Yalanji people.
Continue on through mudflats, shallow waters and mangrove habitat searching for mud crabs, mussels and small fish with the aim of catching some “tucker” (food) for the group to taste. You will return at the end of the tour to the balcony of the family home to feast on the catch of the day with freshly made damper.
